A Trip to Africa

Koffie and his team took us on a wonderful adventure in African culture, drumming, songs and dance today. Some of the children (and teachers) got to play the djembe drums and everyone joined in with the West African singing and dancing.

Coding in Room 15 & 16 with Code Club Aotearoa

It's been busy in Te Kanawa's Marae! With production just wrapped up, we welcomed our friends from Code Club Aotearoa, along with volunteers from Verizon Connect who are working with the tamariki on their coding projects and learning new coding programmes. This is not about playing games but creating and writing code. Pretty cool!
Thanks Michael, Matt, and the team. The children absolutely loved the sessions and are looking forward to more next term.

"The Journey"

Our school production "The Journey" was a success for everyone and the tamariki of Te Kanawa's Marae ended the trip around the world with a lively, vibrant street party in Rio. Renan lead the children on stage with his invitation to "Come to Brazil!"
The children performed beautifully remembering all the steps, and then leading the finale with "We Are the World". You can see from the faces that they are true performers. Well done team!

The Greatest Showman comes to Hoon Hay School!

We enjoyed another wonderful assembly on Friday with our gorgeous buddies. Thanks to Mr Coapman's plastering stilts, we even had the tallest man (Lachie) at school. Mrs Peterson and Mrs Coapman went all out in their tails and top hats, and the children all looked colourful and happy as they shared a rousing rendition of "This is Me". We love this song because it reminds us to believe in ourselves and to step out in confidence - with whatever it is we are doing!

Jolt Dance Workshop

It was wonderful to welcome the Jolt Dance Troupe to our school on Tuesday. They were excited to be with us and were all well prepared with games and dance routines to teach the children.

Crazy Hair Day

What a great way to end the term! It has been a bit crazy, but our tamariki in Te Kanawa's Marae have worked very hard and enjoyed their learning as you can see here!
